Overview
Talus Cloud helps people plan hikes, track outings, share safety context with trusted people, and turn completed hikes into trail stories. Because the app works with location, photos, routes, and outdoor safety information, privacy is a core part of the product.
This policy explains what information Talus Cloud may collect, why it is used, and the choices you have.
Information Talus Cloud may use
- Account and profile information, such as your handle, display name, profile image, and authentication details.
- Route and location information when you plan, track, import, publish, or share hikes.
- Photos, captions, notes, comments, story text, and other content you choose to add.
- Connection and group information, such as people you add, invite, observe, or hike with.
- Outdoor context used for app functionality, such as weather, road, route, map, and terrain information.
- Device permission data needed for requested features, including camera, photo library, microphone, Bluetooth, local network, motion, HealthKit, notifications, and location.
- Limited diagnostics and operational logs needed to understand reliability, crashes, sync failures, and safety-critical issues.
How information is used
- To provide planning, tracking, navigation, observer, and trail-story features.
- To sync your plans, stories, privacy choices, connections, and shared content across devices where supported.
- To let you share stories with the audience you choose: private, trail partners, selected connections, Talus Connect, or discoverable community posts.
- To improve route intelligence, curated-hike playback, reliability, and beta quality.
- To protect users, debug safety flows, prevent abuse, and respond to support requests.
Location and safety data
Talus Cloud uses location to show your position, record hikes, place photos on routes, support observer features, and surface nearby route context. Location is never used for third-party advertising or tracking. You control when location permission is granted in your device settings.
Health, Bluetooth, and local network data
HealthKit access is optional and used only for hike and workout features you enable; Talus Cloud reads workout data and does not write to your health record. Bluetooth and local-network access are used for nearby hiking, observer, and accessory features. None of this data is sold.
AI features
If you ask Talus Cloud to clean up a story or generate route intelligence, relevant story text, captions, route context, and related hike information may be sent to an AI service for processing. Do not include information you do not want processed for that feature.
Sharing and visibility
You choose who can see each story. Privacy settings can include private, trail partners, selected connections, Talus Connect, or discoverable community visibility. If you make a story discoverable, it may be visible to people outside your direct connections.
Retention and deletion
Talus Cloud keeps information for as long as needed to provide the app, maintain your account, support safety and sync features, comply with legal requirements, and improve reliability.
You can permanently delete your account and data at any time, two ways:
- In the app: Settings → Delete account. You confirm with a one-time code sent to your email.
- On the web, without the app: talus.cloud/delete-account.
Deletion removes your authentication record, your profile and account rows (plans, routes, stories, gear, connections, and related data), and your uploaded media (avatars, story and route photos). If you signed in with Apple, your Apple sign-in token is revoked as part of deletion. Shared content that other people still rely on (for example a group plan with other members) may persist for those members. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
